Nursing Home Activities

Pet Therapy Program

Pets and animals are shown to decrease anxiety and depression, increase self-esteem and increase physical activity. So, we have been working to build a Pet Therapy Program for our residents. Currently, Washington County Nursing Home houses two fish aquariums and a bird named Chipper. We also have two dogs actively visiting our residents at least weekly. We are always looking to expand our program, so please let us know if you would like your pet to be a part of our program. You may contact Dianna Brown, Activities Director, for more information.

Movie Theater

We added a movie theater in October of last year. The residents have really enjoyed watching a variety of movies as they snack on popcorn and soft drinks. We have matinees for their enjoyment several times a month.

Resident Porch and Garden

The homelike porch is equipped with ceiling fans, a television, and a fire place. In the warmer months the residents enjoy drinking their lemonade or coffee on the covered porch. In the fall, we host an annual "Weenie Roast." They also have access to garden vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes and collards that are planted in rectangular handmade planters. We also have planters with various types of flowers for the residents to enjoy!

Clubs for Everyone!

Busy Bakers Club - Our residents gather each month to choose and prepare a dish of their choice in our ADL Kitchen. All of the residents enjoy eating their dish afterwards. Visit our Facebook page to see some of the dishes we prepare along with the recipe!

Red Hat Ladies - Our ladies enjoy meeting once a month for their Red Hat Ladies organization. They enjoy refreshments while discussing a topic of choice, or listening to a guest speaker.

Men's Club - Each month, the men in our facility have their Men's Club meeting. They enjoy refreshments while planning and organizing events for their club members and the facility. This can include having a men's movie day to watch old western and war movies, or planning their booth for facility events such as the Halloween Festival.

Community Events

The residents participate in the community parades that are held at Christmas and Mardi Gras each year. They enjoy riding, throwing goodies and seeing the crowds of people who are watching the parades and will talk about these events until next parade.

In the fall the residents look forward to hosting the Children's House at our annual Halloween Festival. The residents set up booths throughout the facility with games for the children to play. Our residents really look forward to this event every year!

Spa Day

We have a spa day for the ladies nearly every month. They enjoy the foot soaks while having their nails manicured. We also provide cucumbers for their tired eyes along with heated towels. Residents are also served "mocktails" that are garnished with lime wedges, cherries and a little umbrella to create a spa-like atmosphere.

Hospital and Nursing Home Week

Every year in May, we celebrate both Hospital Week and National Skilled Nursing Care Week. During this week, we choose a theme and enjoy performing skits and activities for our residents' and staff's entertainment. It is always a fun time of fellowship to "let loose" and appreciate the hard yet rewarding work we put in each day to provide quality care and quality of life to our residents and patients.
